Matteo Gebbia is an Italian photographer living in Byron Bay. He was born in Milan, on the 16th April 1987 and lived there for the first 20 years of his life. He studied at Liceo Scientifico Italo Calvino in Rozzano (Milan) and shortly after attained his high school certificate in July 2007. Three weeks later, at the end of July, Matteo left his country to go to Australia, the place where he wanted to start his career.
He lived in Bondi Beach for a while, working in a restaurant and studying English and then left for a trip around Australia in September. During his travel, he was captivated by the beautiful Aussie landscapes and this stimulated his passion for photography, a skill he had developed since he was little. In November 2007 Matteo finally moved to Byron Bay, in New South Wales, where he is currently working as a freelance photographer while studying a 2yrs Bachelor of Arts degree course in Audio Engineering at SAE College. Matteo has always been passionate about arts, especially music, painting and photography. When he was little he used to spend hours drawing and painting, surprising his family for the creativity that he expressed while drawing. At the young age of 14, Matteo’s grandfather Luigi gave him his old camera; beautiful Rolleiflex Singapore ’74, fully manual. Matteo started taking photos with this old manual camera, trying to express the same creativity he had showed with his drawings years before. But his passion for photography didn’t develop completely until 2007, when, during a stopover in Singapore, Matteo bought his first SLR digital camera, a Canon 400D.
Since then he started shooting more often and he started learning through the college how to edit and manipulate digital images. He started studying on his own Lighting theory and Visual arts, trying to spend as much time as he could with his camera in his hands. In the last year, Matteo made the decision to embark on a career in photography. At the beginning of 2009 he started working as a freelance photographer and joined the Maladjusted records team. He has worked on most of the the artist profiles posted on the website as well as doing a few other portfolios of up and coming bands.
