Miss holly (Dance instructor)

"I am a dancer. I believe that we learn by practice. Whether it means to learn to dance by practicing dancing or to learn to live by practicing living.... In each it is the performance of a dedicated precise set of acts, physical or intellectual, from which comes shape of achievement, a sense of one's being, a satisfaction of spirit"- Martha Graham, c.1953

A dedicated gymnast for 14 years competing in artistic, rhythmic and sports acrobatics, it was during this period that she competed in various local, regional, state, country and combined high school championships, taking out many first places as well as "Overall Champion and Apparatus high-score" at the Annual End of Year presentations. While competing she also studied to become an "Apprentice coach" at The Boys Club Gymnasium, Inverell to teach recreational WAG gymnastics to children of all ages. It was during this time that she choreographed her first of many End of Year displays for the BCI(Boys Club, Inverell) as well as Fates and community fund-raisers all within a span of 14 years. With the experience she gained with teaching at the BCI Miss Holly decided that her heart lay with dance instruction and choreography.

After years of voluntary services at the BCI , in 2004 she was offered a permanent position at ACE Models after which she advanced to choreographing routines for fashion shows as well as styling new outfits and recruitment of new models for shows. During this time she put on fashion shows in Inverell, Glen Innes and Tamworth, and it was in Tamworth that she got her big break in organizing the "Country Fashion Stylist Expo" which also gave her the oppurtunity to do some first time modelling and also appear in a Rothmans commercial. While working with ACE Models Miss Holly was given the oppurtunity to open Gym Active Kids- a studio specifically designed for childrens health and fitness a first for her small country town of Inverell. She was the head instructor at the studio with her devoted mother right beside her, together they worked on routines for a charity that dealt with people with special needs as well as the RSPCA-Paws walk.Miss Holly then worked with the Inverell Public School to help choreograph their very first Aboriginal Croc Estedford performance.

It was in 2005 at the age of 18 that Miss Holly's mother Lisa encouraged her to open her very first dance studio aptly named "Holly's Hip-hop", and it was here that she found her love for hip hop and free-style street dancing. Stepping out of the gymnasium and into the dance studio was an eye opener and life altering experience for her, an experience that made her make the big decision of moving up the coast to beautiful Byron Bay.

In 2008 she acquired the position of Dance instructor at the prestigious Byron School of Dance where she taught various styles of dance from Cabaret and Jazz to Classical Ballet and Contemporary as well as working with tiny tots. It wasnt long before she also took up the position of head instructor in the newly opened Bangalow House of Dance.Miss Holly worked closely with troupes that performed in the 2008 Byron Bay and Lismore Estedford shortly after. With the arrival of "Fly Fresh" in Byron Bay, Miss Holly had the oppurtunity to participate in a Hip-hop workshop held by "So You Think You Can Dance 2009" contestant Jesse Rasmussen, a huge learning experience for her. Towards the end of the year the Byron School of Dance held its annual production with a theme focussed on Bollywood. She worked on the choreography as well as doing a Hip hop performance in the second act of this show, where she danced along students she had taught . Shortly after the Bangalow House of Dance was to have its first ever end of year production, also with a Bollywood theme to tie in with the Byron School of dance. It was there that she worked on her first showcase and choreographed over 10 routines for the show. The show was a huge hit and resulted in the increased numbers of applicants for both schools of dance. This positive feedback made Miss Holly want to seek out more performances in the Byron Bay area to showcase her talents which then brought her to Maladjusted Records. Miss Holly has since been accredited with choreographing and performing at the 2009 Legends of Rock festival held in Byron Bay; where in she worked on a contemporary piece to a track by friends from the hip hop group-Vital Heights. She was then asked to showcase a variety of routines at a fund raiser to raise money for an orphanage in Laos at the Macadamia castle at which she also performed.

Miss Holly is currently working on showcase of ten routines to be displayed at the "Maladjusted Records-Off the Beat'n track 2" concert to be held at the Buddha Bar,Byron Bay, a massive step for Miss Holly and her dance troupes.
